site.btaHousehold Member Quarterly Income Up by 17.6% in Q4 of 2024, Expenditure Rise by 13.7%


The quarterly total income average per household member was BGN 3,371 during the fourth quarter of 2024 and increased by 17.6% compared to the same quarter of 2023, show National Statistical Institute data published on Tuesday.
The highest relative share of income within the structure of the total income was the one from wages and salaries (54.4%). The relative share of income from pensions was 30.2%, and from self-employment - 7.7%.
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2023, the relative share of income from self-employment increased by 1.8 percentage points (pp). The share of income from wages and salaries decreased by 0.5 pp and from pensions - by 1.1 percentage points.
In nominal terms, during the fourth quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter of 2023, the average income per capita by source of income changed as follows:
- from wages and salaries it increased from BGN 1,574 to BGN 1,835 (by 16.5%)
- from self-employment it increased from BGN 169 to BGN 260 (by 53.9%)
- from pensions it increased from BGN 896 to BGN 1,019 (by 13.7%)
- from social benefits it increased from BGN 56 to BGN 69 (by 23.1%)
The relative share of monetary income in the structure of the total income during the fourth quarter of 2024 was 99.5% and the share of income in kind was 0.5%.
Household Expenditure
The quarterly total expenditure average per household member during the fourth quarter of 2024 was 3 033 BGN and it increased by 13.7% compared to the same quarter of 2023.
The greatest share in the formation of the total expenditure was the expenditure on food and non-alcoholic beverages - 29.3%, as well as the expenditure on housing - 15.5%, taxes and social insurance contributions - 14.0%, and transport and communication - 11.4%.
The relative share of food and non-alcoholic beverages and of housing decreased by 0.6 pp compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. The share of recreation, culture and education and the share of taxes and social insurance contributions increased by 0.9 percentage points.
