Bulgaria's Radoslav Yankov came in fifth in the men's parallel giant slalom during a FIS Snowboard World Cup event in the Swiss resort of Scuol on Saturday.
Yankov achieved the best result in the qualification run, and then, in the first round of the elimination stage, he beat South Korea's Kim Sangkyum, who did not finish the race.
In the quarterfinals, Yankov maintained a steady lead over Andreas Prommegger almost till the end, but the Austrian displayed a spectacular burst of speed in the home stretch and finished 0.14 sec ahead of Yankov.
This is the season's second-best result for the 34-year-old Bulgarian after his parallel giant slalom win in Carezza, Italy on December 12.
Saturday's race in Scoul was won by Italy's Maurizio Bormolini, who prevailed over Austria's Dominik Burgstaller in the final. By placing second, Burgstaller reached his first podium. Third place went to Andreas Prommegger, who defeated Gabriel Messner of Italy with ease in the small final.
Bormolini now tops the FIS Snowboard World Cup giant slalom ranking on an aggregate score of 266 points. Yankov has climbed up to second place on 221 points, two more than the points won by Tim Mastnak of Slovenia, who failed to increase his score on Saturday.
The next parallel races of the FIS Snowboard World Cup will take place in Bad Gastein, Austria on January 14-15. The Bulgarian resort of Bansko will host a World Cup event on January 17-18.
