Vazrazhdane insist that value added tax be charged at a zero rate as before and also apply to all consumer goods in the small basket, party and Floor Leader Kostadin Kostadinov said here on Wednesday, addressing Parliament at the beginning of its new plenary session in a declaration on behalf of his parliamentary group.

He recalled that Vazrazhdane had moved for zero-rated bread back in November 2021.

"We insist on a review of Bulgarian policy towards the management of electricity distribution companies in this country," Kostadinov said, adding that his parliamentary group will propose an amendment to the Energy Act enabling the Bulgarian State to appoint a special administrator at the power distributors.

"We insist on, and we will be working for, a review of Bulgaria's policy with regard to the so-called carbon emissions," the Vazrazhdane leader said further. In his words, this sort of "carbon tax" must be scrapped so as to cut the electricity price by 30 to 50%.

The declaration stated that "the sole purpose of the electricity price, the bread price, everything that now painfully hits Bulgarian citizens in the pocketbook, is that Bulgaria can meet the 3% deficit criterion for entry into the eurozone." Vazrazhdane argues that the 2% inflation reported by the National Statistical Institute is fake. "We pressed the electricity price last year, as a result of which it has soared by almost 10% at the beginning of the new year. Electricity will definitely be hiked once again this year," Kostadinov said.

"In order to patch up the budget in some way, in order to achieve the coveted dream of the Euro-American elite in Bulgaria and, accordingly, to meet this 3% deficit target, the price of electricity has now spiked and the bread price has increased. As a result, Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone will be paid by each Bulgarian citizen. Every buyer of bread is paying for Bulgaria's entry into the eurozone. This is a crime against the Bulgarian people," Kostadinov added. In his words, "Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone is a crime against Bulgarian national interests."
