Vice President Iliana Iotova said during a briefing here on Tuesday that the intention to form a large majority in the current Parliament is already a promise of a stable parliament and government.

“Yesterday’s [Monday] discussions filled me with hope because the very fact that they will continue today means that there is room for dialogue and negotiations,” Iotova said. “What I find positive is that all the parties invited by the leading political force [GERB-UDF] are not merely showing up for a talk, but they are coming with specific demands and conditions. This sets them apart from the well-known "assemblage", where, until the very end, it was unclear what exactly was binding the parties and what they intended to achieve.”

The Vice President stressed the importance of having a shared programme that clearly outlines both the legislative actions for the majority and the tasks for the executive branch, with defined actions and deadlines. “Compromises will become evident there,” she added.

Regarding the adoption of the new budget, she expressed uncertainty about the intentions behind it and the policy driving its formulation. “I don’t know whose will this is or what policy lies behind it. I rely on the conscience of the members of parliament not to allow it to become an inflated, unachievable budget, but rather to ensure that real balances and priorities are made,” she commented.

The Vice President’s visit to Pernik was part of the annual "March of Books" campaign, held under her patronage.
