Bulgarian grandmaster Ivan Cheparinov claimed a victory in Round 8 of the European Individual Chess Championship in Petrovac on Saturday, which increased his score to 6.5 points, only half a point behind top-placed Aleksandar Indic of Serbia.

Playing black, Cheparinov achieved a remarkable success against Ukraine’s Ihor Samunenkov, who resigned the game after 36 moves.

On Board One, Indic (white) drew with Bogdan-Daniel Deac of Romania. There are three rounds to go in the championship.
