The Spanish mural and graphic artist Guillem Font is working on a mural in Sofia's Strelbishte residential area. The piece depicting elements of the flora and fauna of Vitosha Mountain will be unveiled on November 7 in the presence of the artist.
The project, initiated by the Visionary Foundation, in a way marks Vitosha Nature Park's 90th anniversary.
As a complement to the art project, funded by Sofia Municipality's Europe programme, Font will hold a linocut workshop with high school students from Sofia. "[The artist] creates bizarre and magical worlds based on real species but enriches them with fantastic compositions and colours," the organizers said.
Font made a name for himself among fans of urban art with large-scale works in the US and Latin America. He is working with one of the biggest mural festivals in Europe, Calle Libre in Vienna, where last year he painted an edelweiss, one of Austria's symbols, on a 5-storey building.
