November 13 (BTA) - Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva started a two-day official visit to Namibia, at the invitation of the country's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Zaharieva's Ministry said in a press release Wednesday. This is the first visit to Namibia of a Bulgarian Foreign Minister.

On Wednesday Zaharieva met with Namibia's President Hage Geingob. The meeting was also attended by Namibian Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila.

At the meeting Geingob thanked for Bulgaria's support in the country's fight for independence. "We are friendly countries. Now our relations need to be lifted to a new phase, the economy. Come and invest in our peaceful and democratic country," Geingob said.

Zaharieva noted that Bulgaria was among the first countries to recognize Namibia in 1990. The Bulgarian Foreign Minister stressed the need to focus on the business relations and the ties between the young people in the two countries.

Zaharieva also said that Bulgaria is ready to grant again scholarships to African students, in particular students studying engineering science and high-tech.

Geingob said his country relies on Bulgaria's experience in the policies aimed at the young. He spoke about the high youth unemployment in Namibia, the importance of promoting innovation and added value.

Farming, tourism, promotion of start-ups, and projects for women empowerment were noted as potential areas for cooperation. Both countries expressed readiness to work for the development of the legal framework between them.
