World marathon swimming champion Tsanko Tsankov on Friday achieved the first-of-its-kind 100 km-plus swim in the River Danube.

His coach Nikolay Iliev wrote on Facebook that the Bulgarian covered 108 km and 250 m from Vidin to Kozloduy in 18 hours, 12 minutes and 32 seconds, swimming non-stop.

He started at the Bononia Estate near Koshava at 3:17 a.m. and finished in good shape at the Radetzky ship at Kozloduy at 9:31 p.m. on September 6.

The swim followed the rules of the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) and was administered by that organization, Tsankov's agency, Iliev Sport Agency, said before the start.

The event was organized by the Pobeda Sports Club with support from the municipal authorities in Vidin and Kozloduy, and the Sport in Bulgaria Foundation.
