Truck and car traffic at the Danube Bridge border checkpoint near Ruse is very intense on Tuesday, said border officials. There was a long queue of trucks formed outside the border area.
"I entered the buffer parking lot at 9:00 p.m. last night and today at 12:30 p.m. I have still not passed the border crossing," truck driver Svilen Dimitrov, who travels from Varna to Bucharest, told BTA.
Car traffic is also intense in the direction of Romania. Drivers are waiting between 10 and 15 minutes to cross the bridge. The border authorities expected that in the afternoon the traffic of cars would increase even more and that there will be more congestions in the period between August 15 and 18, as these four days are a holiday in Romania.
On July 10, Bulgaria started a major overhaul of the Bulgarian section of the 70-year-old Danube Bridge.
