Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has said that a large fire that broke out near Brezovo, Plovdiv Region (Southern Bulgaria) on Monday afternoon has been contained, and suppression efforts are ongoing, the Government Information Service said in a press release on Tuesday. Visiting the area late Monday evening, he added that four solid buildings were burned down, 17 were saved from the flames, no people were injured, and no evacuation was necessary.

The caretaker Prime Minister praised the fire brigade crews, the servicepersons who joined them with two helicopters, the forest wardens, and the volunteers for their involvement in the firefighting efforts. Plovdiv deputy regional governor Atanas Tashkov and Brezovo Mayor Kalin Kalapankov were also on the ground.

The extent of the damage is to be examined so that state aid can be granted to the affected, the press release added.

Some 100 firefighters, forest officials, professional volunteers, and local people will be fighting the fire on Tuesday, the Director of the Plovdiv Regional Directorate for Fire Safety and Civil Protection, Vasil Dimov, said, adding that the situation is currently under control.
