Opera prima Sonya Yoncheva was awarded the Golden Age Award with necklace by Culture Minister Nayden Todorov at Varna’s Summer Theatre on Saturday evening. The award is for her outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of Bulgarian culture and national identity.
“We live in strange times, we look for occasions to be different, to disagree with the other,” Minister Todorov said. “The reason is that something is missing inside us - pride in who we are and what we are. However, there are people who remind us of that, they make us proud and happy by their presence,” Todorov said. He thanked Yoncheva for being one of those people who make Bulgarians proud.
The award ceremony took place after a production of “Madama Butterfly”, directed by Nina Naydenova and conducted by Nayden Todorov.
