Parliament on Friday has authorized the Council of Ministers to implement a compensation programпе for non-domestic electricity consumers affected by electricity prices from July 1 to December 31, 2024, adhering to state aid regulations. The resolution was approved with 185 votes in favour, none against, and 5 abstentions.

The proposal, submitted by Delyan Dobrev (GERB-UDF), Iskra Mihaylova (Vazrazhdane), Stanislav Anastasov (Movement for Rights and Freedoms), Dragomir Stoynev (BSP for Bulgaria), and Pavela Mitova (There Is Such a People), reflects a trend of rising electricity prices on the free market in Bulgaria and the region from the beginning of July 2024. These price levels are expected to persist in the coming months.

The decision stipulates the implementation of a compensation scheme for non-household end customers, connected to any network. The scheme will cover 100% of the difference between the actual monthly average market price on the Day Ahead segment of the Independent Bulgarian Energy Exchange and a base price of BGN 180 per MW/h.

Funds for compensating non-household end-consumers’ electricity costs under the Programme will be provided by the Electricity System Security Fund. The Programme excludes those non-domestic electricity consumers already covered by a compensation scheme approved by the Council of Ministers on April 23, 2024, with subsequent amendments on July 4, 2024.
