The Government of the Republic of North Macedonia Thursday adopted recommendations regarding a heat wave that has recently hit the country. Temperatures in the country are expected to reach 42C over the weekend and next week. The Government made recommendations for exemption from work for pregnant women and people over 60 years of age for the period from June 12 to 18.

Employers of construction workers and of those working outside are also advised to reorganize outdoor physical activities between 11 a.m. and 5p.m. Kindergartens  are warned against practicing physical activity and taking children outdoors.

The Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of North Macedonia has reported that the region is affected by a hot air mass from the northern parts of Africa. The service's data show that high temperatures will not fall below 20C at night, which is defined as "tropical nights".

As a result of the heat waves, the water temperature of Lake Doiran has reached 30C, of Prespa 28.5C and of Lake Ohrid 26.5C.
