The allocations of funds made by the Council of Ministers comply with the government budget balance and the deficit target of 3% is met, caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said during Question Time in Parliament on Friday. Glavchev was answering a question by Bulgarian Socialist Party MP Borislav Gutsanov, who argued that at each of its meetings the caretaker cabinet has approved additional expenditures amounting to millions of BGN.

In Glavchev's words, all this spending does not distort the budget balance in any way. He pointed out that the main priority of the caretaker government is to preserve Bulgaria's European path, which includes the country's goals of joining the euro area and the Schengen area.

Glavchev clarified that these funds would not have had to be allocated if they had not been approved by previous governments.

"I hope that within this caretaker government, other necessary expenditures that have been promised and that we have to pay will not come out. If this happens, it will not be at the expense of the budget balance," he explained.

The funds come from restructuring other expenses, Glavchev explained.
