Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry marks its 145th anniversary on Friday. The observance will begin with a blessing of the colours and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Sofia, the Ministry said.
Specialized equipment used by the Ministry’s personnel in their daily work will be displayed near the St Alexander Nevsky Patriarchal Cathedral.
Wreaths will be laid at the monument to the law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.
Ministry employees will be awarded for high professional achievements at the Interior Ministry building.
The anniversary is marked by a Council of Ministers decision dated February 28, 1992. On July 5, 1879, Prince Alexander I issued Decree 1 establishing the Interior Ministry on the basis of the Tarnovo Constitution adopted on April 16. With the same decree, the first government of the Principality of Bulgaria was appointed with Todor Burmov as Prime Minister.
