As part of an initiative involving the Defence Ministries of Albania, Bulgaria, Italy, and North Macedonia, designed to bolster military logistics within the Pan-European Corridor VIII, the Cabinet approved a preliminary Letter of Intent to establish a military mobility corridor on Wednesday.

The four nations have united to establish a transport corridor across their territories, aiming to streamline border procedures and boost transport operations efficiency, especially during crisis and conflict. The agreement prioritizes reducing bureaucratic hurdles to enable smoother, faster transportation routes across national borders.

Efforts are underway to tackle the obstacles impeding the cross-border movement of military cargo and personnel. These challenges include diverse national border regulations, restricted transport capacity, and an ineffective information-sharing system. Moreover, the transport infrastructure is deficient or unsatisfactory, with a notable disconnect between NATO and EU coordination procedures. These harmonized measures strive to simplify processes and boost operational efficiency in military logistics.

The Council of Ministers has decided to boost military mobility and transport connectivity among four nations to strengthen regional economic development and fortify NATO's deterrence and defence capabilities, further deepening EU and NATO cooperation.
