Rome/Sofia, February 4 (BTA) - Bulgaria is at the bottom of electric vehicle sales rankings with 181 (-6.7 per cent) units sold for the whole of 2019, with none registered in the last quarter, shows European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) data released Thursday and cited by DPA.

According to the information posted on the association's website,
year-on-year sales of new electric cars in the EU have increased by 93.8 per cent to 290,923.

The largest markets are the Netherlands with 67,695 electric vehicles sold and Germany with 63,491.

Hybrid models across the EU have also seen an increase of nearly 50 per cent to 465,026 units sold, and in Bulgaria their number has increased by 7.7 per cent to 237.

Diesel vehicle sales in the EU have decreased by 13.9 per cent to 4.65 million units, with their market share shrinking by more than 5 percentage points to 30.5 per cent. Last year, a drop of 20.3 per cent was registered in Bulgaria with 15,705 new diesel cars sold in the country.

Petrol models remain the most popular in the EU with a sales increase of 5.2 per cent to 8.96 million and a 58.9 per cent share (growth of over 2 percentage points). In 2019, registrations of new petrol vehicles in Bulgaria increased by 12.9 per cent to 21,220, according to ACEA data. NV/DT
