An exhibition highlighting the cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU) was unveiled in the BAS building in Sofia on Tuesday. The show has been occasioned by the international interdisciplinary scholarly conference "Bulgarian-Croatian Dialogues. Times, Events, Individuals", which is underway in the Bulgarian capital between Tuesday and Wednesday.

As a result of their joint work so far, BAS and HAZU have conducted 14 conferences and have published the reports from them in as many books. The conferences have been attended by a total of 620 researchers and representatives of cultural institutions, among others.

The exhibition is titled "Croatians and Bulgarians through the Centuries. Cultural Diplomacy and Inter-Academic Cooperation". It has been organized by the BAS Institute of Balkan Studies in implementation of the project "Cultural Diplomacy in the Balkans in the 20th and 21st Century: Achievements, Problems, Future Challenges", financed by the Bulgarian National Science Fund of the Ministry of Education and Science. The exhibition is staged in partnership with the State Institute of Culture under the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and HAZU.

It uses innovative methods to present the results of the longtime successful partnership between HAZU's Historical Sciences Division and the Institute for the History of Croatian Literature, Theatre and Music, on the one hand, and the BAS Institute of Balkan Studies, on the other hand, said Alexandra Milanova, research coordinator at the Institute of Balkan Studies.

Each display panel at the exhibition has a QR code providing full access to the reports from the conferences held in Bulgaria and Croatia in the context of inter-academic cooperation between BAS and HAZU since 1998. The reports discuss important aspects of Bulgarian-Croatian relations over the centuries, the contribution of the two peoples to the cultural diversity of Europe and their role in fostering a common European identity.
