site.btaBulgaria's Only Canoe Racer to Have Won Olympic Slot Suspended from Competition
Paris Olympics entrant Yoana Georgieva has been suspended from competition for violating anti-doping rules, Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reported on Monday. The 20-year-old is the only Bulgarian canoe racer who has earned a berth at the upcoming Games.
According to the International Testing Agency, the reason for Georgieva's suspension is that she was not available for testing on December 15, 2023. BNT speculated that the punishment may have been imposed for the athlete's failure to turn up for three out-of-competition tests in the course of a year, but Bulgaria's Anti-Doping Centre did not confirm the information.
Georgieva has been suspended from both international and domestic competitions. The case is expected to be resolved before the Olympics, which will begin on July 26.
