The number of visitors to museums, theatres and cinemas in Veliko Tarnovo Region in 2023 has marked an increase compared to 2022, the Territorial Statistical Bureau North of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Tuesday.
Visits to museums in 2023 were 467,000, which, compared to 2022, marked an increase by 25.5%. A little under 20% of those visits took place on days with free entry. Visits by foreigners also increased by 56% increase, reaching 174,000.
A total of 263 theatre performances were organized in the region in 2023, which were attended by 53,000 spectators, an increase by 33%.
Four libraries in Veliko Tarnovo Region had a collection of over 200,000 library items in 2023, containing a total of over 1.6 million library documents. This included books, newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and others. The registered readers numbered 23,000, which was by 75% less than 2023. Library visits were also down by 30%, with a total of 159,000 people.
In 2023, the region still had five cinemas and 10 screens, which did not change compared to 2022. There continued to be one multiplex in the district, where 42% of all screenings and 47% of visits took place. Screenings in cinemas increased by 1% and visits, by 14%. A total of 550 films were screened (increase of 26%), 83 of which were Bulgarian productions, 112 European, 324 from the USA, and 31 from other countries.
In 2023, two registered and licensed radio operators operated in Veliko Tarnovo Region, broadcasting 8,897 hours of radio broadcasts, which is 2 hours more than in 2022. Two registered and licensed Bulgarian television operators operated in the district, one less than in 2022. Terrestrial television, cable and satellite broadcast a total of 9,360 hours of programming, down by 5% from 2022.
