St. Georgi University Hospital in Plovdiv opened a new cerebrovascular centre on Monday. The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology for comprehensive treatment of cerebrovascular diseases.

“Today we are one step closer to the perfection we seek”, hospital General Manager Prof. Doctor Karen Dzhambazov said at the opening ceremony. He credited the creation of the centre to Prof. Atanasova, head of the Clinic for Nervous Diseases, and Prof. Traykova, Head of the Department of Diagnostic Imaging. He expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the creation of the specialised centre, as well as for the collective effort of all colleagues to provide necessary care and support to patients, aiming to improve their quality of life.

The state-of-the-art centre specializes in treating all cerebrovascular diseases, particularly ischemic strokes. The hospital has a multidisciplinary team and advanced equipment to provide top-level care. Patients are quickly assessed in the Emergency Department and, based on certain criteria, receive thrombolysis and/or endovascular treatment within 4.5 to 6 hours of the incident.

The centre’s track record so far includes 15 endovascular procedures using mechanical thrombus extraction, reporting positive results two years post-implementation of CT perfusion methodology in select patient population. The centre is also planning a research project using AI in neuroimaging for acute stroke cases.
