Bulgaria's highest ranked tennis player Grigor Dimitrov qualified Sunday for the quarterfinals of the French Open for the first time in his career after a 7-6(5) 6-4 7-6(3) win over world No. 8 Hubert Hurkacz. He has reached semifinals at each of the other three Grand Slam tournaments - the highest level competitions in the sport.

Even though Dimitrov finished the match in three sets, the victory did not come easy. Hurkacz played at a high level, scoring 20 aces and reaching 7 break points but the Bulgarian showed great composure and fighting spirit in the crucial moments to get the better of his Polish opponent.

In the next round the world No. 10 will play against the winner of the match between world No. 2 Jannik Sinner and French player Corentin Moutet (No. 79). Dimitrov has negative head-to-head balance to both of them - 1-3 in the previous matches with Sinner and 0-2 with Moutet.
