site.btaBulgarian Border Police Director Meets with Chief Police Inspector for Northern Greece

The Director of Border Police, Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, met with the Chief Police Inspector for Northern Greece, Lieutenant General Hristos Bulumbasis, at the border crossing point Promachonas, Border Police said on Tuesday.

The meeting was initiated by Chief Commissioner Zlatanov to discuss ways to ease border control procedures at the checkpoints along the common border, without compromising border security. 

The conversation also focused on options for providing additional capacity at the border crossing points and especially at the Kulata/Promachonas. Joint actions were agreed on allowing the introduction of lighter checks - mainly on European Union (EU) citizens.

In view of the expected increase in the passenger flow during the upcoming holidays, Border Police have established an organization to ensure normal throughput at all border crossing points, the Directorate further reported. Sufficient police officers will be deployed to carry out border checks at a maximum number of routes. The number of security officers at all border crossing points has been increased.

On April 29 it became clear that joint teams of Traffic Police from Silistra and the neighbouring Romanian town of Cularasi will regulate traffic during the Easter holidays, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior announced. The measure is being introduced because of the expected increase in traffic of Romanian vehicles to Bulgarian resorts and those transiting to the Hellenic Republic.

At working meetings between representatives of the management of Traffic Police from both countries, it was determined as necessary that the joint activity be carried out on the days of April 30, May 1 and May 6 on the main road routes in the border areas of all border crossing points on the border with the Republic of Romania.
