"The path to Bulgaria's European future passes through the fight against corruption, and corruption in Bulgaria is linked to Russia," outgoing Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said during his meeting with the EU ambassadors, the Representation of the European Commission and the British, Ukrainian and US ambassadors to Bulgaria, the Government information service reported here on Monday.
Denkov thanked the diplomats for the excellent cooperation over the past 10 months. He stressed that thanks to the joint diplomatic efforts this country has been accepted into the Schengen area and is making progress on the way to the eurozone.
The Prime Minister recalled the work done during the outgoing Government's mandate, highlighting the changes to the Constitution in the area of the justice system and, in particular, the possibility for the Prosecutor General to be investigated and not to be untouchable, as was the case until now. Denkov briefed the ambassadors on the report he had submitted to Prosecutor Daniela Taleva on the case concerning Interior Ministry Secretary General Zhivko Kotsev. Earlier on Monday, the Prime Minister deposited facts and circumstances that have come to his knowledge in the course of his duties, which have raised reasonable suspicions about the possible commission of a crime by the Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov.
Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov also pointed out that this country is getting back to normal, but still needs many reforms. "We are Europeans and as politicians we will continue to work for Bulgaria's European future," he said.
For their part, the ambassadors also thanked Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and his team for the good cooperation.
