Vice President Iliana Iotova commented to journalists in Edirne that she hopes for a serious Council of Ministers, with responsible people, knowledgeable and literate, who will work for all of the people, not for themselves.

"I have always said that Bulgaria needs a stable government," Iotova said and added that she is not optimistic about the formation of a cabinet.

"I believe that the respect we owed to Patriarch Neophyte made politicians more humble these days. Let's avoid political comments. There are moments in life when we just have to keep our heads down," commented the Vice President, in regard to the passing of Neophyte, Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia.

Iotova noted the the consultations for forming a government have indicated that what is shown publicly as budget parameters is not true, and that the reality of the situation needs to be assessed.

The Vice President said that these are "perhaps the most secret consultations within a future cabinet", and noted that that is not an honourable thing. "The government does not function only for itself, it must work for all of us and there must be transparency in how it is constructed and on what principles," she added.

Iotova pointed out that there has been no talk of politics, decisions, what comes next. There has been talk of posts, of people, of distribution, of percentages, of leapfrogging within the current cabinet. All this speaks of instability, Iotova said, which, unfortunately, is not only a bad sign for Bulgaria's European partners, but also makes everyone very insecure.

Earlier on Sunday, Vice President Iliana Iotova unveiled a bas-relief of Father Alexander Chakarak in the Bulgarian St. George Church in Edirne.
