The Council of Ministers determined the values that serve to calculate the market revenue ceiling of electricity producers, the press service of the outgoing Cabinet reported.

The Kozloduy nuclear power plant will calculate its market revenue ceiling at BGN 150/MWh value of the electricity produced.

For producers of electricity from coal-fired condensing plants, the value was determined at BGN 300, increased by the average monthly price per tonne of CO2 emission allowances per MWh multiplied by 1.32, and for producers of electricity from coal with added biomass fuel (solid or gaseous fuels from biomass) and/or waste and/or petroleum products and/or a combination thereof - BGN 300 increased by the average monthly price multiplied by 0.9 per tonne of CO2 emission allowances, for one MWh. The National Electric Company EAD (NEK), as a producer of electricity from hydroelectric power plants, will calculate its market revenue ceiling at BGN 200 per MWh.

Producers of electricity from renewable energy sources (RES) without a premium compensation contract will set their market revenue ceiling at BGN 300/MWh value of electricity produced. Above these ceilings, producers owe contributions to the Electricity System Security Fund, through which the necessary financial resources are provided to deal with the consequences of high energy prices.

The decision enters into force retroactively from January 1, 2024 and applies to the income of electricity producers for the period January 1, 2024 - June 30, 2024.

The reduction of the revenue ceiling for electricity producers is aimed at collecting funds in the Electricity System Security Fund, the Ministry of Energy said last year on the occasion of the previous determination of the revenue ceiling. At the time, the department indicated that the collected financial resource would be intended to deal with the consequences of possible high energy prices.
