At its plenary sitting on Wednesday, Bulgaria's National Assembly is debating a draft resolution to accept the government's resignation. Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov tendered his resignation on Tuesday afternoon. He is attending the sitting.

This move is based on an arrangement between the two largest groups in Parliament, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) and GERB-UDF, according to which Denkov and Mariya Gabriel of GERB-UDF were to rotate as prime minister and deputy prime minister over a nine-month period, starting with Denkov. Subject to this understanding, the two parliamentary coalitions plus the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) voted the Denkov Cabinet into office on June 6, 2023. The rotation was due to take place on March 6, 2024.

The first item on Parliament's agenda was moved by the CC-DB Parliamentary Group.

Venko Sabrutev MP told reporters that CC-DB had delivered on its commitment and it was up to GERB to make the next move, or else early elections will be held.

Parliament rejected a motion by There Is Such a People to have the debate broadcast by the Bulgarian National Television and the Bulgarian National Radio.
