Bulgaria‘s Defence Minister Todor Tagarev Monday took part in the opening of the 8th Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX 2024), which presents defence companies' latest military technology innovations in the context of modern maritime security challenges, Tagarev’s Ministry said.

Tagarev is visiting Qatar to attend DIMDEX 2024 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs Dr. Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah. The Bulgarian delegation includes the Commander of the Bulgarian Navy, Rear Admiral Kiril Mihaylov, among others.

The visit began on Saturday when Tagarev conferred with his Qatari counterpart, following up on the constructive dialogue and excellent relations between Bulgaria and Qatar.

The two discussed the development of cooperation in defence, including military-technical cooperation, military education and training. Topical issues related to security in the Middle East and the world were also on the agenda.

The Bulgarian Defence Minister delivered a lecture on Black Sea security at the Joaan Bin Jassim Academy for Defence Studies in Doha.

The Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference is held every two years under the auspices of the Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. On an area of 35,000 sqm, some 200 defence companies from Qatar, Turkiye, the US, Italy, France, Germany, the UK, and China among others, showcase their latest innovations and technologies in the field of maritime security, including military equipment, vessels equipped with defence systems, and systems for cyber security, maritime communication, navigation and surveillance, combating maritime piracy, etc.
