During its official visit to Baku on Monday, the Bulgarian parliamentary delegation led by National Assembly Chair Rosen Zhelyazkov visited the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan's Parliament).
"We welcome the search for a lasting peace solution between Azerbaijan and Armenia," Zhelyazkov said at the beginning of plenary talks between the representatives of the parliaments of Bulgaria and Azerbaijan. He welcomed the steps envisaged in this regard, including the signing of a lasting and sustainable peace treaty, the delimitation and demarcation of the borders, and the restoration of transport corridors.
The Bulgarian Parliamentary Chair congratulated his hosts on the successfully held elections and the re-election of President Ilham Aliyev, which, in Zhelyazkov’s words, is a guarantee for Azerbaijan’s sustainable development. He added that Bulgaria-Azerbaijan Friendship Group Chair Hamid Hamid was an observer of these elections and shared that they were conducted in a democratic manner and the voters' choice was fully respected.
"I congratulate you for hosting COP29 in November 2024, which is indicative of the international recognition for Azerbaijan in such a sensitive area as climate," Zhelyazkov said.
Earlier in the day, Zhelyazkov and his delegation paid tribute to Azerbaijan’s National Leader Heydar Aliyev at the Alley of Honors. A wreath was laid in the Alley of Martyrs.
Prior to that, the National Assembly Chair conferred with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and noted that Azerbaijan is a key partner for Bulgaria in its efforts to improve energy security and achieve energy diversification in Europe and the region.
