The market index for wholesale food prices in Bulgaria decreased by 0.66% to 2.290 points over the week, the State Commission for Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said.
At the beginning of 2023, the index stood at 2.316 points. In early March, it reached its spring maximum, at 2.480 points. The base level of 1 point was set in 2005.
In the outgoing week, the average wholesale price of imported cucumbers went down by 8.9% to BGN 3.08 per kilogramme. The price of imported tomatoes dropped by 8.2% to BGN 3.25/kg. Potatoes rose by 0.8% to BGN 1.30/kg.
The price of carrots went up by 2.4%, and they were selling at BGN 1.28/kg. The price of imported onions increased by 3.9% to BGN 1.60/kg. Cabbage maintained its price at BGN 1.15/kg, while imported red peppers rose by 8.9% to BGN 4.15/kg.
The price of imported apples increased by 4.4% to BGN 1.88/kg. Lemons fell by 7.3% to BGN 2.03/kg. Bananas rose by 0.4% to BGN 2.83/kg, tangerines by 0.5% to BGN 2.22/kg, and oranges by 8.1% to BGN 2.13/kg.
The price of white brined cheese made from cow's milk dropped by 0.8% to BGN 10.98/kg and yellow kashkaval cheese, type "Vitosha", by 0.2% to BGN 16.67/kg.
Yoghurt, with a fat content of 3% and over, decreased by 0.9% and was selling at BGN 1.16 for a cup of 400 g. The price of fresh milk, with 3% fat content, also went down by 0.9% to BGN 2.24/litre.
The average wholesale price of chicken depreciated by 0.3% to BGN 6.20/kg, the price of eggs (size M) by 2.6% and they were selling at BGN 0.37 per piece.
The price of rice fell sharply by 61.7% to BGN 1.27/kg, while lentils’ rose by 0.2% to BGN 4.26/kg. The price of dry common beans increased by 1.4% to BGN 4.23/kg.
Sugar went down by 1.4% to BGN 2.16/kg and sunflower oil by 4.4% to BGN 2.59/litre. Flour (type 500) dropped by 2.4% to BGN 1.22/kg, while the price of butter from cow's milk increased by 1.9% to BGN 2,69 for a pack of 125 grammes.
