Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Director General Daren Tang have discussed the protection of intellectual property and the mechanisms by which companies in Bulgaria get access to financing and protection of their ideas and the products and technologies they develop. The two conferred on the sidelines of the 2024 Antalya Diplomacy Forum, the President's press secretariat said on Saturday.

Radev highlighted Bulgaria's ambitions to strengthen the ties between science, education, and business and thereby create sustainable prospects for small and medium-sized enterprises and young people in Bulgaria. Tang expressed WIPO's readiness to conduct more training and intellectual property protection programmes in Bulgaria, targeting young people and their ability to implement their innovative ideas in the field of production faster.

The sides agreed that intellectual property protection secures jobs and promotes employment and technology exchange. In October 2024, Tang is scheduled to visit Bulgaria on the occasion of 130 years of intellectual property in Bulgaria and 75 years of Bulgaria’s Patent Office. Radev said that it is possible that a forum on intellectual property protection in Bulgaria will be held during Tang’s visit.
