Bulgaria's highest ranked tennis player Grigor Dimitrov qualified for the second round of the ATP 500 tournament in Rotterdam on Friday. Seeded No. 6 in the event, Dimitrov won 7-6 (4), 6-3 over Italian Lorenzo Sonego.

Dimitrov broke Sonego’s serve early in the first game of the match, but then let his opponent level the score at 2-2. Both players then served solidly and no breaks followed until the end of the set. Dimitrov took a 5:4 lead in the tie-break, then won two more serve points to prevail in the first set.

In the second set, Dimitrov made a decisive break to go up by 5-3. Serving for the match, the Bulgarian won four straight points and claimed the victory.

In the second round of the tournament, Dimitrov will face Marton Fucsovics of Hungary. The head-to-head record between the two of them is 2-2.

In 2023, Dimitrov reached the semi-finals in the event in Rotterdam.
