There has been a lot of progress and this is a serious change in the fight against corruption, according to Deputy Chief of the US mission in Sofia Andrea Brouillette-Rodriguez, who spoke Monday at the opening of a forum on fighting vulnerabilities to corruption at the municipal level.
Brouillette-Rodriguez pointed out that Bulgaria has made steps towards reforming the judiciary.
Last year, Parliament guaranteed whistleblower protection, accountability of the prosecutor general and reforms in the anti-corruption commission, she said and expressed hope that the public will feel the positive impact of these changes.
The diplomat noted that there have also been changes at the local level, adding that the ultimate goal is boosting trust between local authorities and citizens.
