The film panorama Storie dalla montagna (Stories from the Mountain), organized by Bansko Film Fest, starts on Tuesday and will continue until February 8 at the House of Cinema in Sofia, the Italian Cultural Institute reported. The programme includes 11 contemporary films representing the adventure and mountain genres.

The organizers said: "The three film nights are a unique cinematic journey into the amazing world of nature, adventure and mountaineering culture. We will witness thrilling action footage, full of adrenaline of course, but we will also bow our heads to the high, sometimes insurmountable peaks."

The films tell stories of the achievements of the Italian mountaineering school, filmed in some of the most inaccessible places around the world. Their characters are real people who have mapped much of the world's mountaineering and adventure culture. Some of them, such as Hans Kammerlander, Matteo della Bordella, Nives Meroi, Herve Barmasse, have been official guests here at the Bansko International Film Festival.

Cinephiles will enjoy footage from Mongolia, the Himalayas, Alps and the Dolomites.

Highlights of the film programme include Pioneers, which won the Best Screenplay Award at the 2023 Bansko Film Fest, and Canvas Wings, which tells the story of Angelo d'Arrigo, the first man to allegedly hang-glide over Mount Everest.
