“We support Bulgaria in all efforts, made by the government for the country to join the US visa waiver programme. Recently the Bulgarian government appointed a national coordinator for the programme, who set up a very efficient team,” said US Consul General here Michael Greer, approached by BTA in connection with Bulgaria’s progress under the US visa waiver programme. The diplomat on Friday attended a ceremony for the presentation of the first visas to Bulgarian students who will take part in this year’s US work and travel programme.

Greer said that in several months the whole team and the national coordinator of the visa waiver programme have achieved more progress than in his tenure so far.

At the end of last year Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov commented on the waiving of US visas for Bulgarian nationals, “Bulgaria hasn’t made any efforts in this respect in the past years,” said Denkov. "That’s why a few months ago we appointed a coordinator to negotiate with US institutions. He is a diplomat with a very extensive background and serves as an adviser in my political cabinet,” said the Prime Minister.
