site.btaYemen's Ambassador to Bulgaria on Kidnapped Bulgarian Crew: Authorities Are Trying to Resolve the Problem

Ahmed Shamar, Charge d'Affairs of the Yemeni Embassy in Sofia, spoke about the situation in the crisis region located in his country, during a press conference here on Thursday. Referring to Lyubomir Chanev and Danail Veselinov, who were kidnapped by Houthi militias along with the other crew members of the Galaxy Leader vessel on November 19, 2023, Shamar said that Bulgarian authorities have been in contact with him since the incident in an effort to find a resolution.

Asked whether he is aware of the two Bulgarians' whereabouts, Shamar responded that they were detained by the Houthis.

The press conference began with a documentary shedding light on the events in Yemen after the 2014 coup by the Houthis. According to the film, the death toll in the first five years of the conflict alone had reached some 230,000. Nearly 4 million people have been displaced.
