At its meeting on Wednesday, the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs endorsed a draft decision to align the model of composition and leadership of the Committee for Control of the Security Services with those of other parliamentary committees. The draft decision to amend the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly was submitted by Boyko Borissov, Kiril Petkov, Delyan Peevski and Atanas Atanasov. According to it, the election of a chairman and the number of committee members will depend on the ratio between the parliamentary groups.

Until now, the committee was formed on a parity basis and was chaired on a rotational basis for one parliamentary session according to the size of the parliamentary groups. It was precisely because of the rotation that Nikolay Drenchev from Vazrazhdane was elected as its chairman at the beginning of this session.

In their reasoning, the sponsors of the motion pointed out that the current arrangement made the committee ineffective and dysfunctional.

It would not be a problem for Vazrazhdane if it lost the chairmanship of the committee for control of the services, said party leader Kostadin Kostadinov on Wednesday.
