Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel Tuesday arrived on an official visit to Saudi Arabia January 23-24 on the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. In Riyadh, the delegation she leads discussed opportunities for broadening bilateral partnership in a number of spheres including energy, economy, investment, education and science, culture and innovation.

She met with the Minister of Investment, Khalid Al Falih, and the Shura Council Speaker, Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Al-Sheikh, as well as Minister of Energy Abdulaziz bin Salman Al Saud. The focus of the meetings was the transformation of Bulgaria into a regional innovation hub and an attractive investment destination in the fields of energy, transport, digital infrastructure, green technologies and hydrogen. Enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries and common initiatives in the field of new technologies, innovations, culture and tourism were also discussed.

"Bulgaria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have traditionally good relations, based on pragmatism and a vision for the future," said the Deputy Prime Minister as quoted by her Ministry. She noted Bulgaria's role as a factor of stability and security in Southeast Europe, as well as a significant regional, innovation, energy and transport hub. Current geopolitical topics were also discussed, including the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. Gabriel expressed gratitude for the hospitality and for the shared vision for future cooperation.

Gabriel said in a post on social media that she discussed with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Investment Khalid Al-Falih how Bulgaria can become a regional innovation hub and an attractive investment destination in the fields of energy, transport, digital infrastructure, and green technologies. Among the topics discussed were investment, innovation, connectivity, culture, trade, and tourism. "I congratulated Riyadh on winning the bid to host the World Expo 2030 and shared a key initiative in my work, Brand Bulgaria. These are initiatives that enable our countries to share a vision for the future," Gabriel wrote.

The Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister extended an official invitation to Al-Falih and his team to visit Bulgaria.

Gabriel congratulated Saudi Arabia for winning the right to host the Expo 2030 world fair, and informed about a key initiative in her work - Brand Bulgaria. "These are initiatives that give our countries the opportunity to share their vision for the future," commented the Deputy Prime Minister.

In Riyadh, Gabriel will also hold a meeting with representatives of the Bulgarian community.
