Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, together with Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and Regional Governor Prof. Andriyana Andreeva, examined the coastal promenade in the city of Varna on Monday, where erosion processes have been going on for years. The Prime Minister said that a programme will be created for coastal fortification in the country, but stressed that it is necessary to develop scientifically based projects.

It is obvious that coastal fortification activities in the country have been abandoned for decades and measures are needed, Denkov pointed out, noting that will require billions of BGN in funds , since there are problems with landslides not only along the Black Sea, but also along the Bulgarian Danube coast. The backlog accumulated over 30 years needs to be caught up, and the preparation of the projects needs to start immediately, while in the meantime sources of financing are also being sought, the Prime Minister said.

The entire Black Sea coast in the northern part of the country is prone to landslides, Mayor Blagomir Kotsev recalled, adding that it would be best to make a unified project for the area. As an example, Kotsev gave Romania, where such a large-scale coastal fortification project was implemented. A special state agency has been established in the country, and the activities were financed with European funds, said Kotsev.

Regarding the strengthening of the coastal promenade, the Mayor pointed out that the municipality will do what is necessary before the start of the tourist season, but these are measures of an urgent nature, rather than for the complete solution of the problem, which is a commitment of the state.
