A free store for clothes and shoes opened in the village of Stubel, Montana Municipality, Mayor Emilia Grigorova told BTA.

The store is open between 9 am and 4.30 pm and is self-serviced. People bring in clothes that they don’t wear and take what they need. The store is located on the main road from Pleven and Vratsa to Montana.

Stubel Mayor Emilia Grigorova said that idea was born after many local people began to bring in unnecessary clothes to the village for the poor and for large families from the village. At one point the village hall was overfilled with clothes and some were brand new, said Grigorova. So the mayor decided to set up the free store. Her initiative quickly became popular and soon her friends began to send in clothes. Though new, the store is already popular and well-stocked.

The village of Stubel has 500 population and more in the summer. There are 40 children who go to school in Montana. In the past the village has 1,000 population and there was a school. Nowadays, people are actively involved in the local community centre and observe all holidays and feasts, said the mayor.
