At its first sitting in 2024, the National Assembly adopted, 119-0 with 33 abstentions, first-reading amendments to the Vocational Education and Training Act. The bill envisages the elaboration of a new list of professions for vocational education and training based on which training on a wide spectrum of professions will be provided and quality vocational education and training will be ensured.

The revisions introduce competences related to environmental protection and the use of information technologies. The bill broadens the opportunities for vocational training through the introduction of online distance learning for those aged 16 and over. The amendments also reduce the administrative burden in licensing and registration procedures and optimize the work of the National Agency for Vocational Education and Training through the provision of inter-register exchange, the creation of more favourable conditions for the work of vocational education centres.
