Kaloyan Levterov Thursday set a national record in the men's 100 m backstroke at the 2023 European Short Course Swimming Championships in Otopeni. He finished in 52.46 seconds, thus beating the record set by Vladislav Terziev in 2020, 53.02 seconds.
Levterov finished 21st, which was not enough to qualify for the semi-finals.
Another Bulgarian athlete competing in Otopeni, Petar Mitsin, made it to the 200 m butterfly semi-finals by finishing third in 1:55.28 minutes.
In the women's series, Bulgaria's Gabriela Georgieva decided not to swim in the 50 m backsroke series to keep her strength for the 200 m finals later on Thursday. In Wednesday's semi-finals, she set a national record.
