Bulgarian writer, director and playwright Yordan Slaveykov on Thursday presented his novel The Last Step and a short story collection titled The Holiday Family to the Bulgarian community in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Honorary Consul of Bulgaria in Washington State, Elka Rouskov, said in a Facebook post. Slaveykov visited Bulgarians from across the ocean at the invitation of the Las Vegas good reads book club headed by Rositsa Petkova. 

"Last night's meeting with writer and playwright Yordan Slaveykov was something long sought after in Vegas. He was more than welcome, and the questions and conversation with him took more than two hours," Rouskov wrote.

Many Bulgarian expat children attended the meeting with Slaveykov. "An exciting moment for our youngest readers was their first interaction with the work of a writer who had travelled from home for this special meeting. Let's educate them to love the world of Bulgarian literature as an inexhaustible source of values and wisdom," Rouskov said in the post. 

Commenting on the event, Slaveykov wrote on Facebook that there is nothing better for a writer than meeting his readers. "I love seeing, talking to, asking, listening to my readers. I've done my book launch at a bar, at a bookstore, at the beach, at a library. Last night's talk now has a special place in my heart, not only because it was my first meeting with a Bulgarian community in the US at all, not even because of the excellent event organized by the Las Vegas good reads but because my personal ‘holiday family’ has gained new members," the writer added.

Slaveykov's play The Spider has been performed in the US, Russia, Belarus and Belgium and have been acclaimed by critics in The New York Times and The Village Voice. In 2015, Slaveykov wrote his debut novel The Last Step, which was re-released in 2020.
