site.btaTwo Bulgarian Plays Draw Capacity Audiences in Turkiye
Plays by Bulgarian playwrights Nedyalko Yordanov and Stefan Tsanev are performing to enthusiastic audiences in Ankara and other Turkish cities. Yordanov's The Murder of Gonzago and Tsanev's Another Death of Jeanne d'Arc, both translated into Turkish by Prof Huseyin Mevsim of Ankara University, are on in the capital now.
Prof Mevsim is a literary historian, researcher of Turkish-Bulgarian cultural and literary relations and translator.
The Murder of Gonzago, directed by Farid Bikchantaev, premiered at the Small Theatre in the Ulus district on October 6. The performance has been running for three months in state theatres. Tickets sell out online within minutes and the actors gets a standing applause every time.
This is the 13th Bulgarian play translated by Prof Mevsim.
Tsanev's Another Death of Jeanne d'Arc is on at the private Cankaya Theatre in Ankara's district of the same name. Again, performances sell out in record time. The play premiered to a capacity audience on November 17.
Huseyin Mevsim told BTA the play had performed to packed houses across Turkiye since 2005.
Tsanev's The Last Night of Socrates is another favourite in Turkiye, Mevsim said.
