A Bulgarian-Romanian conference will be held in Ruse (on the Danube) on Thursday to discuss the losses caused by the two countries' delayed accession to the border-free Schengen area. The event entitled "United Europe: A Path to Economic Security and Sustainable Integration" is organized by the economy ministries of Bulgaria and Romania.
The region's economic future, key infrastructure projects and best practices are also expected to be on the agenda.
Bulgaria's Economy and Industry Minister Bogdan Bogdanov and Romania's Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism Minister Ștefan-Radu Oprea will open the conference, the Bulgarian Ministry said. Before that, Bogdanov will meet his counterpart on the Danube Bridge between Ruse and Giurgiu where the two will discuss the logistical hurdles facing businesses at the border.
The forum will be attended by Ruse Mayor Pencho Milkov and Regional Governor Danail Kovachev, investors, representatives of foreign and local companies and the two countries' chambers of commerce. MEPs, representatives of the diplomatic corps and of local government have also been invited.
