Delyan Peevski is the sole floor leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) following the resignation of Mustafa Karadayi on Tuesday, according to the National Assembly’s website. Until now, Karadayi and Peevski shared the leadership of the MRF parliamentary group.
Parliament's press centre confirmed for BTA that a letter had been submitted to National Assembly Chair Rosen Zhelyazkov informing him that the MPs of MRF had decided to change the parliamentary group’s leadership and elect a floor leader at a meeting on November 8, 2023.
Karadayi tendered his resignation as leader of the party at the meeting of the Central Operational Bureau on Tuesday. MRF founder and honorary chairman Ahmed Dogan takes over the operational leadership of the party until a national conference is held to elect Karadayi's successor.
In a comment for the press shortly after the meeting, Peevski said that the national conference where MRF should elect Karadayi's successor is expected to be held in February but the exact date will be set in a decision of the party's top leadership, the Central Council, at a meeting on November 17.
Karadayi is currently listed on the National Assembly’s website as a member of the MRF’s parliamentary group.
