The construction of the seventh reactor unit of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP) will start on Wednesday by decision of the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov said at the beginning of the Council of Ministers’ regular sitting.
"The company, which will implement the project, will be capitalized with additional BGN 500 million. It will start negotiations with the companies which will build the seventh unit," Denkov said, adding that the new unit should be operational by 2033.
The Prime Minister clarified that the same cabinet decision will also start the construction of Kozloduy NPP's eighth unit. In his words, the construction of the seventh and the eighth unit is planned to run in parallel. Their total capacity will be 2,300 megawatts, which significantly exceeds the capacity of 1,760 megawatts of the Kozloduy NPP’s decommissioned units 1,2 3 and 4, Denkov said.
He wished success to Energy Minister Rumen Radev and his team, describing Wednesday's decision as one of the most important that the Government will take while in office.
