Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel took part in the annual ambassadorial conference of the heads of Ireland's diplomatic missions around the world, the press centre of the Foreign Ministry said in a press release here on Tuesday. The forum was hosted by Micheal Martin, Ireland's Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence. More than 100 ambassadors and senior officials from Ireland's Department of Foreign Affairs attended the event. The annual conference focused on the EU’s future and strengthening cooperation to enhance the EU's impact on the international stage.

Addressing the forum, Gabriel said that the bilateral cooperation with Ireland helps Bulgaria to become an innovation hub. She presented the Government's priorities on joining the Schengen area, the eurozone and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and thanked Ireland for its support on these strategic priorities. Gabriel also touched on topics such as EU enlargement policy, security in the Black Sea region, cybersecurity, and innovation and culture.

Bulgaria's top diplomat also noted the contribution of young people to Europe's peaceful and sustainable future and emphasized the role of cultural diplomacy. "United around common values and democratic principles, let Bulgaria, Ireland and the EU continue to be ambassadors of peace and understanding, ambassadors of a better future," the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
