The President of the Austrian National Council, Wolfgang Sobotka, arrived on an official visit to Bulgaria Tuesday at National Assembly Chair Rossen Zhelyazkov's invitation. Zhleyazkov welcomed Sobotka at Plovdiv Airport.

The agenda of Sobotka's visit also includes meetings with President Rumen Radev, Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel.

Zhelyazkov and Sobotka, are scheduled to tour the fence along the Bulgarian-Turkish border later on Tuesday. The two will be introduced to the activities of the Border Police, as well as with the control and prevention measures against illegal entry attempts in Bulgaria, according to the requirements and standards applied in the Schengen countries. 

Afterwards, the two will visit the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing (on the border with Turkiye) to observe in real time the processing of documents and the implementation of border controls on vehicles and persons crossing the border. 

The President of the Austrian National Council will lay a wreath at the Monument to the Unknown Warrior in Sofia during an official ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. Afterwards, a meeting between Zhelyazkov, Sobotka and representatives of various parliamentary groups in the 49th National Assembly will take place in Parliament. After that Zhelyazkov and Sobotka will give a joint statement to the media.
