site.btaInterior Ministry Receives Nearly 150 Alerts Related to October 29 Local Elections

Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov Friday told reporters that his Ministry had received 147 alerts related to the October 29 local elections. Some of them were obtained by operative means.

Eighty-two alerts were about vote buying, 50 were about violations of the election legislation, and some were about employees instructed to vote for an employer's favoured candidate.

Ten pre-trial proceedings have been instituted so far. Stoyanov said several persons had been arrested, including a municipal administration staff member.

The Interior Ministry will buy six blood drug screening devices, four of which will be used by the road traffic authorities, and then many more samples will be taken, Stoyanov said.
